Spring 2019

BYL offers youth lacrosse opportunities to boys in grades 1-8. Our current spring 2019 program consists of four team levels:

Minis (1st and 2nd grades)

Our Minis program introduces the game to our youngest players in an engaging way that is geared to their age level. While they will train hard and play games, the main emphasis is to develop basic lacrosse skills and grow their understanding and interest in the sport.

Older Youths

Juniors (3rd & 4th grades)    Minors (5th & 6th grades)    Majors (7th & 8th grades)

Boys joining our Juniors, Minors, and Majors programs focus on learning the fundamentals and basic strategies of the game. While our teams generally become more competitive at the older ages, our goal is to keep it fun, and we welcome players of all abilities and experience at any team level. Teams may be divided based on the level of experience of the players who have signed up for any particular age level.

Team formation

  • Juniors, Minors, Majors: Teams are formed based on school grade and experience;  Minis: Players are evenly divided into two teams
  • Our goal is to place every player at the level best suited to his experience and ability. When teamed with players of similar ability levels, we believe the enjoyment and experience is maximized for your player.
  • Please note that we cannot guarantee that any player will be placed on the same team from year to year nor grouped on the same team with his friends
  • All of our BYL teams are coached by parent volunteers

Practices

  • In-season practices are underway for all teams. Please watch for updates from the coaches via TeamSnap.
  • Each team practices 2 times a week at Ron Beese Park. Practices for all age levels take place on Mondays and Wednesdays during the following times:

    Minis and Juniors
    5:00 p.m.-6:15 p.m.

    Minors and Majors
    6:15 p.m.-7:45 p.m.

Coaches may also schedule additional optional practices at Ron Beese Park or other locations around the Barrington area.
  • Monday practices focus on the mechanics of the game and skill development; experienced, third-party coaches lead the training sessions. Wednesday practices are run by the volunteer parent coaches.

Important: All players should wear their Barrington jerseys to Monday practices, so coaches can quickly identify players and easily note feedback for off-field, player-development discussions
Every Friday: optional goalie and face-off training
  • Goalie practice: Led by Andrew Cramer (goalie coach for the True Lacrosse club) from 5:30 to 7:00 at Ron Beese Park. Open to anybody who is interested; no pre-registration required.
  • Face-off practice: Led by Brian Niven (Barrington high school JV coach and college face-off player) from 5:15 to 6:15 at Ron Beese Park. Open to anybody who is interested; no pre-registration required.

If inclement weather causes Ron Beese Park to temporarily close, practices may be cancelled or shifted to other locations in the Barrington area.

Games

  • Game schedules for each team are posted on TeamSnap.
  • Our season ends with playoff games on June 1-2, 2019 for Minis and June 8-9, 2019 for Juniors, Minors, and Majors. Please save these dates in your calendar now.
  • All of our BYL teams participate in the spring league organized by the Illinois Boys' Lacrosse Association (IBLA)
  • BYL teams face lacrosse organizations from nearby communities. Home games will be played at Ron Beese Park; away games require local travel.
  • Most games will be scheduled on Sundays in the late morning or afternoon. Due to the complexity of scheduling games, some teams will also have games on other days of the week.

Important note: While BYL strives to balance playing time at all levels, please note that active participation in practices throughout the season and exceptional sportsmanship are expected. Players not able to fulfill these expectations may experience less playing time than others.
